Information regarding the temporary telephone mast on the Recreation Ground, off Bath Road

Council has received a number of queries regarding the temporary telephone mast which has been erected on the recreation ground off Bath Road.

An agreement has been signed for 18 months to enable the siting of the temporary telephone mast. The need for a mast in this area is due to the removal of the existing mast, a short distance away, behind the Sleaford Road industrial units. Parish Council understands that the mast is being removed from its existing location because the landowner wishes to redevelop the land. During the 18 month temporary location, the operator will be seeking a permanent location for a mast.

All permissions for erecting the mast are being dealt with by the operator. Parish Council’s involvement has been to allow the mast to be built on it’s leased land while a permanent site is found. In relation to health concerns it is understood that this a regulated industry and operators must ensure their equipment is functioning within the safety limits set by the international guidelines.

Notices were not put up at the recreation ground because, although the licence was signed a few months ago, the construction work began at very short notice. The construction has taken around 2 weeks to complete. There was no significant disruption to residents during this time.
