Whilst volunteering in our Community Library I was urged to join the Parish Council and I was elected in May 2019. This village is my home, I was raised here and continue to live here. I see this is an opportunity to give something back, to use the role as a platform to make a positive contribution. I was always clear that attending formal meetings would only be a small part of the role and that a direct “hands on” approach was required. So, since joining I have engaged regularly with Parish Councillors serving neighbouring communities through a variety of different platforms as part of a concerted effort to collaborate and share ideas and experiences. I have also taken an active role in improving the appearance of key assets including the War Memorial and our Community Library.  However, the emerging development on our doorstep of up to 6,000 homes clearly represents arguably the biggest challenge to us and the surrounding villages. To maintain the character and identity of our Village will be a real struggle.  I have been saddened in recent years with a growing sense that the village was slipping backwards and increasingly divided. I know it’s going to take a massive combined effort to get village back to where it was never mind where it needs to be moving forward. We are going to need community involvement at the heart of this effort with everyone working together now more than ever.
